Tyrokafteri (Greek Hot Pepper Cheese Dip)

A specialty of the region of Thrace in northeastern Greece, this dip is served all over Greece!


1 part feta greek feta cheese

2 parts myzithra or ricotta or cottage cheese

hot green peppers, finely chopped (to taste)

olive oil

2 teaspoons lemon juice or white vinegar

Mash the cheese with a fork and mix well with the chopped peppers. Add the lemon juice or vinegar and the olive oil, a little at a time, until the mixture is smooth. 

Alternatively: Put the cheese, peppers, lemon juice or vinegar, and alittle of olive oil in the blender and mix, adding more olive oil at the end, if needed, to bring to the correct consistency.


Basic ingredient for traditional "tyrokafteri" is the good quality of feta cheese.

Serve garnished with black or green olives. 

Accompany with slices of fresh or toasted bread.
